Finding Joy in everyday things

When I think about things that make me joyful, it all comes down to the little things. I am not trying to be modest or diplomatic. But the little everyday things that bring me joy can’t and shouldn’t go unacknowledged. If the most sought after feeling in the world could be just found in yourself and around you. In your immediate surroundings. Who is that fool who craves for it and runs and searches for it far and wide.

These little things that are filled with joy giving light are only waiting to be uncovered. Only if we can find it in a long conversation with a loved one or in taking a less travelled path on a hike. Or maybe in going over old pictures of yourself or laying on freshly washed sheets taking in the wonderful scent. In petting a dog or a cat and watching it shiver with love. Maybe joy lies in making someone else joyful with your presence. Sometimes it can be hidden in laying on your bed after a long day of work. Or in preparing an unexpected surprise present for a loved one. Joy lies in quenching your thirst after having a parched throat for hours. It could also very well be in the relief of peeing after holding it in for too long. For some it hides in the form of a favourite food. Others a day in a week. Joy can be found in every little moment.

It is a fleeting feeling but so much easier to find right in the very next moment. You could say these things are not of any interest to you and don’t give you satisfaction. And yes you could be right. I haven’t given an exhaustive list rather a few general ones. But there is always something that happens daily that you overlook. Once you stop and unveil it you’ll be overpowered by the amount of joy that you can experience each day. Life shouldn’t be about living for a few days in a year that you enjoy and cherish. Or even certain dates and occasions. Joy is what makes us humble and not let everyday things be taken for granted.

Let me know what sparks joy in your everyday life I’d love to add some to my list :)

  1. Iam still learning how I can be pleasure with little things. I guess, we must reach minimal lives. Minimal lives bring us happiness. Less is more.
